The handicap class was introduced in 2000 and has become a great success, attracting strong competition in every race. It is open to all classes with the exception of the Osprey and therefore allows other club classes such as the Mirror and Firefly to compete in both their own class competition and the handicap class within the same race.
Handicap results are calculated using the Portsmouth Yardstick system - a nationally recognized formula updated each year to reflect the inherent performance capability of each dinghy design. This often results in boats finishing within seconds of each other on corrected times!
Apart from the established club classes it has also attracted entries from such dinghy designs as the Graduate, Miracle. Solo and Phantom, Laser, RS 600, Albacore and GP14.
So, hitch up your trailer and pop down for the day or even the weekend, with a café on site you won’t starve and there's a camp site a couple of miles away.
